General Requirements for Videos:
Since the project's resolution will be HD 720p it is imperative that videos
are of the highest quality. This is a dance MEP and with that specification
things like fast paced scenes and motion graphics and lots of eye candy are
a must. The purpose of the final project it to be played during dances at
conventions (such as Youmacon where this MEP is scheduled to premier) so
keep that in mind when choosing your track and coming up with your idea. I
will not discriminate against editors, however I realize that 720p is a
tough requirement that many will not be able to comply with, that is enough
weeding for me. The expectation for motion graphics and eye candy is the
main reason for formatting the final release in 720p other then the final
destination being large screens at conventions.
I do also realize that there is still little in the way of HD content
available here in the states. Because of this I will not frown upon creators
up scaling footage to meet the HD resolution requirements. However it is
HIGHLY recommended that your track is edited at the 720p resolution, not up
scaled after. I will require a full resolution beta before the final is to
be sent in and will cut your track from the project if it doesn't stand up
to quality standards. Technical help for up scaling footage will be provided
as needed.
How to Join:
Joining the MEP requires calling a track. There are a total of 28 tracks,
26 of which are up for grabs. The first and last track are the intro and
outro, both of which I will be handling. Ideally I would like to
have each track edited by a different creator, however due to the technical
requirements and possible drop outs that may not be possible. Tracks are
given on a first come first served basis. If you finish your track before
final tracks are due you may select another track if you feel you can
complete another by the time final tracks are due. However, you will only be
allowed to take a 2nd track after you have submitted your final to me.
The wav file of each track will only be given out once the track has been
called.
To request a track simply send an email to ngsilver [at] ngsilver [dot] com.

I will get back to you after I have viewed your request. I will let you know
if you have the track you requested or one of your alternates. I will also
provide you with a link to the wav file of your track for editing.
Deadline Dates:
The deadlines for each beta are rigid. I expect all editors
to submit their beta by or on the date. Some slack is allowable, but in
order to insure this project is finished on time the deadlines will not be
overlooked. The dates may change slightly to help accommodate creators who
may be working on projects or attending conventions that will happen around
the time these deadlines are currently set for. Check back for changes, I
will also notify all editors involved of any changes when they happen.
MEP Beta/Final Video Schedule:
05/18/2009: Proof of Concept
08/18/2009: Working Beta 1
11/18/2009: Working Beta 2
03/18/2010: Final Beta
04/09/2010: Final Video
Deadlines/Betas more in Depth:
Proof of Concept - This beta is the first one I will expect to see. It is
essentially a proof that you have started working on your track, you know
what you want to do with it, and you can pull it off. It doesn't have to be
long, just enough to illustrate your idea to me. This beta can be sent in
following the working Beta requirements.
Working Betas - These two beta deadlines are to show me that you are working
on your track. Considerable progress should be made between the Proof beta,
beta 1, and beta 2. These don't have to be complete video lengths, but they
should each show more and more progress. Beta 2 should be closer to the
final then Beta 1. The specifications for Working betas are outlined. They
do not need to be sent to me in the full 720p quality, they can be sent at
half the resolution (the one outlined in the specs) and can be in any
container you wish as long as it can still showcase the quality of the
video.
Final Beta - This beta is essentially the final video. It should be sent in
as if it was the final version of your track. This beta is meant to
illustrate that the video is complete, but also to be used as a means to
check for any errors or slight changes that could be made to the track
before the final is sent. This will also assist me in deciding how I plan to
mix the tracks together. The specs for this video is such that other then
being sent in a compressed format (that can be lossy) it should illustrate
the full quality of the video.
Final Video - This is the final version, and the one that will be put into
the final mix when the project is compiled. The specs are to insure smooth
integration of all videos. Progressive is a must. Full quality lossless codecs are a must. Audio should be uncompressed.
Beta/Final Video Specs:
Final Video Requirements:
Codec: Lossless (huffy or Lagarith)
Resolution: 1280x720
Interlaced or Progressive: Progressive
Frame Rate: 30 fps (absolutely NO 3:2 pulldown)
Audio: un-compressed
Final Beta Requirements:
Codec: h.264, HQ Divx or Xvid, Mpeg-2
Resolution: 1280x720
Interlaced or Progressive: Progressive
Frame Rate: 30 fps (absolutely NO 3:2 pulldown)
Audio: compressed
Working Beta Requirements:

Interlaced or Progressive: Progressive
Frame Rate: any
Audio: compressed
How to get your Files to me:
When we get closer to the first beta deadline I will setup an
FTP server for betas and final videos. This service is provided for those of
you who don't have other means to send your videos in. I will accept videos
via other online storage methods such as megaupload, yousendit and others. I
will also accept IRC transfers and any direct links if you decide to upload
your files to your own personal webspace. How you get the files to me is not
important just as long as the files get to me and are in top condition.
