The project is the brainchild of AMV Creator ngsilver. The following is the process of how the idea came to him and how he went about implementing it:
When the Alive 2007 CD came out I knew it was a must purchase for me. I picked it up and as soon as I did I popped it into my CD player and listened to the greatest remix of Daft Punk music I have ever heard. It was at that moment I realized that the only one able to properly mix Daft Punk is none other then Daft Punk themselves.
Over the next few weeks I came up with the idea that this music deserved to be put in visual form. An AMV needed to be made to this music. Though after further thought it was decided that creating such an AMV to this CD was a large task, one too large for one person, or at the least too large for myself to edit all alone.
However I knew I wanted to still see a video to the whole CD. So I bounced the idea for a MEP (multi editor project) with some friends and other creators. There was quite a bit of interest however when I informed them that I was wanting to do the whole CD they quickly took note that such a mix would be too long and would most likely fail because of it.
Dejected, I put the project on the backburner while other things became more and more important for me to work on and finish during the year. It wasn't until a few months before Youmacon 2008 that I brought the idea back up to a few friends, who suggested creating a shorter mix of the CD.
Over the months leading up to Youmacon I had gotten more and more into VJ'ing, a form of DJ'ing where you also mix video with the audio. A form of live video editing essentially. This technique I took care to implement during the AMV Dance at Youmacon 2008. It was there at that dance I knew for sure that the attendees would love to dance to a Daft Punk mix.
I spent the next month working on a mix when I could get a chance and finally came up with something that I was happy with. The final length of this mix is 41 minutes, including the intro and outro. While still a bit on the long side, it isn't a massive amount of time to expect editors to fill.
I then decided to cut the mix up into 1:20 segments. To assist in the final mixing of the tracks I added a 2 second overlap before and after each track, essentially making each segment 1:24 long. This length to me seems to be perfect in order to receive high quality tracks from editors, allow a maximum number of creators access to the project, and insure that each segment wouldn't be too long for them to edit to.
From that point it was time to create this website, the rules and guidelines each editor is expected to follow, and get editors signed on. From this point we can then move forward to the completion of the project.
